Australasian Lawyer Announces 2024 5-Star Employer Rankings for Australia’s Legal Industry

The Australasian Lawyer’s 2024 5-Star Employer ranking showcases workplaces that are not only performance-driven but also lead the legal industry in attracting and retaining top talent. The evaluation team conducted a comprehensive review of eligible Australian law firms to identify those most suited for employment. Key factors highlighted in the ranking include leadership, compensation, professional development, and work-life balance.

Australasian Lawyer is a leading independent platform in the legal industry across Australia and New Zealand, dedicated to addressing the real issues and challenges faced by legal professionals. Through in-depth features, analysis, and professional interviews, it provides high-level case studies, both international and local insights, and brings attention to the issues that matter most. In its third edition of the “Most Influential Lawyers”, the publication recognizes 47 legal professionals who have positively influenced their peers and the industry, as well as those who have made a significant impact on the national legal landscape.

Industry experts stressed that while empowering employees with autonomy is essential, employers must also ensure their teams feel supported. Robert Kruger, Senior Manager of Legal at Robert Walters Australia, remarked, “Given the fast-paced nature of the legal environment, it’s easy for employees to feel overwhelmed and unsupported. Employers should strive to find a balance, allowing employees the freedom to work independently without feeling micromanaged, while also fostering a supportive environment. Striking this delicate balance is challenging, but top employers should prioritize building such a culture.

As the Australian legal industry continues to evolve and competition for top talent intensifies, meeting these standards has become increasingly critical. Auslaw Partners, as a 5-Star rated employer, is committed to addressing employee needs and providing comprehensive support, such as introducing flexible working arrangements and tailoring its approach to accommodate employees from diverse demographics and regions. The firm also fully implements Australia’s newly introduced “Right to Disconnect” policy, which was rolled out in August 2024.

Auslaw is dedicated to upholding this employment law measure, granting its employees the right to disconnect from work-related communications outside of working hours, including the right to not answer calls, emails, or messages without fear of penalty. The firm aims to reduce unpaid work outside of working hours, promote employee well-being, and help staff better balance their professional and personal lives.

Managing Partner Huiming Lin stated: “Any service we provide must be meaningful and impactful to our employees. When searching for talent, cultural fit is our top priority, followed by relevant experience and skills. We also take a long-term view, considering both the short-term and long-term career goals of candidates.”
